Senate Democrats are urging the Trump administration to reinstate the White House pandemic unit as a separate office. They say dissolving the office in 2018 slowed the U.S. response to the coronavirus. Six senators have sent a letter to President Donald Trump saying the outbreak has highlighted the importance of having a central office at the White House to set policy and coordinate the government’s response to global health crises. The White House says the pandemic office wasn’t dismantled, but was absorbed into another division where similar responsibilities still exist.
