The City of Providence is recruiting members for a new Muslim-American advisory board. The mayor’s office says the initiative is aimed at protecting and serving every resident of the city regardless of race, religion, or other identifiers.
The board will be charged with guiding Elorza’s policy decisions affecting Muslim-Americans in Providence and building understanding of the religion of Islam in the community. Elorza says he was motivated to create the board because of the reported rise in hate crimes nationally against Muslim-Americans.
